Reports from Special Interest & Advisory Groups
a. HPC SIG (Andy Richards)HPC SIG met on Thursday 10th March. In addition to the regular updates on local and national HPC services a session was held to look at remote connection and visualisation software. This discussion was partly initiated in response to the divisional software license group question on whether to stop supporting the Exceed software centrally. A range of solutions were discussed including Guacomole as used in Maths, Xming, Exceed, VNC and others. Paul Warren was present representing DSLG and the general feel was that there were sufficient alternatives and the majority were not using Exceed that it could be argued Exceed only be supported by those departments, such as Physics, that still use it heavily.
