Who's Who

Jonathan Ashton Jonathan has been involved in security and working at OUCS for three years now. As well as his daily work for OxCERT he is currently invovled in a project to trial the use of encryption for secure email.
Matt Ashman & Andy Brimson Matt & Andy have been working within the Education sector for over 7 years, designing, installing and managing Campus and Halls of Residence Wireless and Wired networks. We have a very good understanding of the challenges of managing student owned devices and started working with Bradford Networks in 2005 as they were the only vendor that had a solution that was driven and developed for Education environments to manage and control student devices. To date, we now have over 80 Education customers within the UK and Ireland who use the Campus Manager system on their halls of residence and / or campus wired and wireless networks. It is the most successfully deployed NAC solution within the Education space, with over 700 installations worldwide.
Stuart AndersonStuart is a Senior Systems Engineer specialising in High Performance Computing, Server, Storage, Quicktime streaming and OS X architecture and brings a wealth of education experience to the table.
Tony Brett Started my IT Career in Molecular Medicine in 1993, moving to Corpus Christi College as IT Manager in 1998 and then to OUCS in 2003 as Associate Head of IT Support Staff Services. Served on OxCERT from 1997-2001 and was Head of IT Support Staff Group 2001-2003. Tony worked as Programme Manager for the University's ICT Strategy Programme and became Head of IT Support Staff Services in February 2006. Tony is a member of the UCISA Staff Development Group and of its Distributed IT Support Staff Group.
Matthew Buckett Matthew is a software developer who has worked in OUCS for three years and has been heavily involved in the development of the existing WebLearn service. He is currently working on getting the new WebLearn service ready for the pilots.
Barry Cornelius Barry has been with Computing Services since March 2005.  He is mainly involved in the introduction of web applications.  Examples include the MoinMoin wiki, MRBS (a Meeting Room Booking System), WebCalendar and a domain running Google Apps.  He also produced OXITEMS, an institutional newsfeed system, that is used by numerous departments and colleges at the University.  Recently, OUCS has been leading a new institution-wide project on podcasting.  Barry has been heavily involved with the technical side of this project tailoring OXITEMS so that it better meets the needs of podcasting.  Barry has also been involved in a project led by Library Services that uses OXITEMS to manage accessions lists and makes them more visible.  He is also helping to pilot OUCS's new LDAP server (Oak) using it in a development version of OXITEMS.
James Dore James is IT Officer at New College, where he manages a wide variety of systems increasingly hosted on VMWare ESX Infrastructure. A long programme of connecting disparate pools of data is being achieved with the use of technologies from many vendors, including Novell, Microsoft, Apple, 3Com and Bradford Networks. The programme hinges on Novell's Identity Manager and eDirectory applications, which provide great potential for sharing data between many different systems.
David Ford David joined the OUCS Network Security Team (OxCERT) in 2006, his role involves helping to protect the backbone network by identifying compromised systems within the University network, liaising with IT staff to alert them to critical vulnerabilities, and to ensure that incidents are dealt with promptly.
Ian ForrestCisco's PSS team is a vertically aligned team that focuses purely on unified communications. I am aligned to the Education and Local Government sectors. In my role I work closely with customers and Cisco's account teams on unified communications projects and opportunities.
 
I have been in the telecoms/unified comms industry for over 10 years working on many projects of all sizes. In this time I have seen many changes in communications technologies with the main one to note being a transition from TDM to IP Telephony and Voice over IP. More recently I am seeing more unified communications applications also being deployed to increase users productivity, mobility & enable users to collaborate more effectively.
Oliver Gorwits Oliver is a member of the OUCS Network and Telecommunications Group, dividing his time between management and development of the University backbone network, and related software services. He specialises in wireless networks and has helped many units to deploy OWL and Eduroam over the past year.
Stephen Gower Stephen is the ICT Manager at Wolfson College, where he's worked since 1999 and now leads the team running all the IT systems. He's always been facinated by maps and mapmaking, and with OpenStreetMap gets to combine this with other interests including cycling and visiting pubs.
Adam Hamilton In addition to his MSCE accreditation, Adam is a leading Microsoft certified trainer (MCT) focussing on Security, Exchange and Server 2008.   Adam was formally part of the European Microsoft Windows nt Academic Centre in Edinburgh before its services where brought within ITS Feda many years ago.  Adam brings many years experience at delivering Microsoft technology and is regularly part of the latest deployment teams.
 
ITS Feda is a Microsoft and Novell Gold Partner, with substantial experience in both technologies.  Our portfolio includes high quality vendor authorised technical training, extending from Microsoft and Novell into Linux, VMware, Apple and ITIL, as well as leading edge support and consultancy services. ITS Feda is delighted to have worked with various Oxford Colleges with the delivery of both consultancy and training. 
Alan HillyerAlan has worked in Telecoms and IT for 22 years. Formerly as Telecommunications Manager for Imperial College and spent several years in the supplier industry working as a consultant and also for Ericsson and Damovo. Alan joined OUCS in June 2005 when Telecoms moved from Estates to OUCS. Much time has been spent on replacing and upgrading old systems and servers and integrating the various telecom databases into a single entity. Alongside this he has also started the migration project for moving voice onto an IP enabled delivery platform.
Dominic Hargreaves Dominic began working for the University in 2002 at the Astrophysics Department, and, following a brief spell in the commercial ISP industry, joined the Systems Development and Support Team at OUCS last year. He works on general infrastructure within Sysdev, and several projects including Herald email and the newly established Oak.
Espen Koht Espen is IT Manager  for Darwin College and St Edmund's Colleges (Cambridge), former Chair of CITMG and CITC organizer.
Rick Leclerc Rick is one of the Founders of Bradford Networks. He and his team created the system following a single request from a college to be able to turn off and on switch ports for network access. After the first install, demand for the solution grew substantially and was continually developed based on customer requests and feedback for functionality. Rick was a key member of the continual development of the solution  and has over 6 years experience of deploying and developing the solution to meet the demands of the education market.
Ruth MasonRuth is a Senior Web Development Analyst and leads the BSP web team which supports web publishing throughout the central administration. Her work life currently revolves around two projects: the Web CMS Project to implement a CMS in the UAS; and the Staff Gateway Project, for which she is the Project Manager.
Ashley Meggitt Ashley is IT Manager for Jesus College (Cambridge), former Chair of CITMG, and Chair of the College IT Conference.
Liam NewcombeLiam has over 14 years experience in IT infrastructure, software development and solution design. He has delivered services and products used by many of the UK's biggest businesses. Liam has held a wide variety of roles ranging from operational management to product engineering. Liam is also an advocate of driving up the level of professionalism in the IT industry through the use of sound engineering practices. He has brought to market a number of data centre based product offerings for businesses such as Digital Island and Cable & Wireless. Today Liam consults on solution architecture and enables businesses to truly understand the relationship between their requirements and the way technology can best fulfil those requirements.
Mark Norman Mark has worked in the commercial and higher education sectors as an IT project manager, an implementer, consultant and trainer. Mark has managed research projects and more recently worked on infrastructure projects at OUCS.  He is now the project manager of the Groupware Project.
Benjamin O'Steen Benjamin O'Steen is the Institutional Repository Software Engineer in SERS (Systems and e-Research Service, Oxford University Library Services), working mainly on the Oxford Research Archive (ORA).
James Partridge James is the Apple Systems Development & Support specialist at OUCS. He has a particular interest in integrating OS X clients and servers into existing IT infrastructures and in OS X client management and imaging. He is also involved in setting up and maintaining podcasting infrastructure. In his other life his research work is on Czech poetry.
Steve Pryor Steve is a 20 year veteran in the IT and AV markets and has previously worked for companies such as ACER, POLYCOM and SMART TECHNOLOGIES. He now works for Cisco with the remit of developing the market for Digital Media technologies throughout Europe.
Sally Rumsey Sally Rumsey is the ORA Service & Development Manager. As well as managing the implementation of ORA, her role includes advocacy and publicity activities for ORA. Creating the archive is one thing: filling it with content and encouraging researchers and administrators to use it as an everyday tool is quite another challenge. She has recently been invited to join the 'Fedora Commons News and Public Information Council.'
Sebastian Rahtz Sebastian Rahtz has been Information Manager at OUCS since 1999, where he leads a small team of web professionals supporting a variety of web sites and services. He is also heavily involved in the work of the Text Encoding Initiative and is an XML bigot.  In the recent past, he was director of OSS Watch, the open source advisory service, and further back in antiquity he worked in archaeology, typesetting, and computer science.
Peter Robinson Works as manager of a team of learning technologists at Oxford University's central computing services.  He is an experienced multimedia developer and has 13 years experience working on a variety of ICT projects with academics at the University. He is co-author of the 2004 JISC CLIC scoping study "Community Image Collections" and has been a member of various JISC projects including RAMBLE (integrating RSS and Blogs with the VLE), the CREE  portal scoping project and THEMA - surveying  the student  learning experience.  He trains staff on Podcasting and teaches on the Masters degree in e-learning.
Jackie Stiff Jackie has been working for the University for 10months, before that she worked for a CISCO reseller for 5 years have extensive experience in procuring IT equipment, mainly networking. Now IT Buyer for the University looking at a  broader range  IT equipment finding the best deals to fit departments' needs.
Bettina TalmonBettina has been working in the Legal Services Office for 6 months. Her areas of interest are commercial and intellectual property law. She is a dually qualified lawer in England and Germany and trained with international companies and law firms before she joined the University.
Paul Trafford Having started with sums on the 'Little Professor' calculator, Paul's interest in handheld and mobile technologies has progressed through luggable computers to current smartphones.  He led the RAMBLE project linking mobile blogging and learning environments in 2004/2005, and now acts as focus for various mobile initiatives at OUCS, co-ordinated through the mobile SIG.  However, Paul is perhaps still better known as WebLearn Administrator, a role he has carried out since 2002.
Stewart Watson Stewart is a senior project manager in the Business Services and Project divison of the University.  Before arriving in Spring 2007 he was a software and system development project manager. He has over 20 years project management experience in technology areas.
Susannah Wintersgill Susannah is the Head of Internal Communications in the Public Affairs Directorate. She took up this new position six months ago, joining the University from British Airways, where she held a range of communications and management positions. Her role involves developing and strengthening effective internal communication networks and channels across the collegiate University, including both print and electronic media, and she is part of the project team working on the development of a Staff Gateway for the University website.
Jeremy Worth Jeremy Worth has been the Chairman of the IT Support Staff Group since October 2004, having been on the committee since 2001 and he sits on ICTC. Jeremy has been the IT Officer at the Institute of Archaeology and Research Lab for Archaeology since 2000 and started working for Archaeology after completing a Masters in Computation at Keble College. Jeremy runs a large mixed Windows, Unix and Mac environment, with all networked services for the departments provided by a number of Apple XServes running Mac OS X Server. Jeremy has worked within computing for nearly 15 years and specialises in integrating heterogeneous computer systems.
