Security Today, 2010 and 2015 | Several events in the latter half of 2001 brought about a great awakening in security - Code Red, Nimda, the September 11th attack, and document destruction at Enron and its accountant Arthur Anderson. Since 2001 security as a whole has increased dramatically, but is not yet approachable for most computer users. In this often humorous and futuristic talk, Ben Smith, Senior Security Strategist at Microsoft, will discuss where security is today, its primary challenges, and where it will likely be in 2010 and 2015. | |
Constructing a computing commonwealth: some new projects at OUCS | In this talk I plan to share some ideas about future strategic directions for computing support across the collegiate university, as seen from Banbury Road. I will report on some new developments at OUCS over the last year, in particular the new shared Desktop Support project, the roll out of single sign-on, and progress towards e-mail address standardization. If you've ever had to explain the difference between a herald account and an Oxford account, you may find this talk useful; if you've ever wondered what the role of a central computing services is in a distributed IT support environment, you certainly will. | .pdf
