Teaching old dogs new tricks: the evolution of the OUCS Help Centre When I first joined OUCS, every member of staff was required to put in a two hour shift on Advisory. We tried to help our users find the typos in their Fortran (or Algol) source code, explained the more obscure aspects of the scheduling systeem, and even in extremis pointed them towards the manuals. This year, OUCS opened its new Help Centre, which tries to help our users find which button they pressed wrong, sorts out their login accounts, and even, in extremis, suggests which web pages might be worth a quick look. In this talk, I'll try to describe what's new about the new Help centre, how it came into being, and why I think it has an important part to play in backing up IT support throughout the University Powerpoint, Converted to HTML
The Vision of the "Oxfordshire Community Network" Oxfordshire County Council have taken the bold and decisive step of selecting Synetrix to architect and build a County-Wide communications infrastructure - The Oxfordshire Community Network. The project is aimed at delivering service to all the Council's agencies as well as to all schools and libraries by combining respective funding from the Governments National Grid for Learning initiative and the New Opportunities fund as well as significant sums from the Council's own budget. The network will provide the foundation and interface to deliver the County's e-government agenda. Future phases will be to offer access to citizens and to Oxfordshire based private sector organisations. Synetrix will be delivering a comprehensive Oxfordshire portal solution that will include Internet access, email, collaborative services including video conferencing, video streaming, discussion groups and communities protected by a robust security architecture. This session will explain the OCN model, its vision for delivery and its future. Powerpoint, Converted to HTML
